Hopetoun Circuit/ Adelaide Ave on and off ramps
After many years of lobbying, the YRA has been advised that the ACT Government is finally beginning work on 15 August 2025 to establish much needed pedestrian crossings on the Hopetoun Circuit / Adelaide Ave on and off ramps. Please see the attached ACT Government advice. This work has been jointly funded with the Australian Government under their Roads Safety Program.
The YRA has been advised that the much-needed footpath in front of the Saudi Arabian Embassy on Weston St to connect to these pedestrian crossings is not part of these works. Residents might like to put in “Fix My Street” request for this missing 90 metre gap in the Yarralumla footpath network. These works and the footpath are crucial not only for Deakin School children coming to Yarralumla Primary School, Yarralumla School children using Canberra Girls Grammer School but for the safety of our residents walking to/from the Deakin Shops across some very busy intersections.
Please observe 40 Kmph speed limits during these works.
Alexandrina Drive Pedestrian Crossings
After lobbying by the YRA and Yarralumla residents, the ACT Government has also advised that raised crossings, lighting and signage will be installed soon on Alexandrina Drive where the cycle paths (near Hopetoun Circuit and Novar St) cross Alexandrina Drive. This project is jointly funded with the Australian Government under their Road Safety Program
The ACT Government has also indicated that funding has been made to preliminary design work only at this stage of a raised pedestrian\bike crossing across Weston Park Road at the entrance to Weston Park.
These road and safety improvements are much needed.

Road and pedestrian safety improvements: Hopetoun Circuit
Safety improvements will soon be delivered at the Adelaide Avenue and Hopetoun Circuit intersection in Deakin. Ramps on both sides of the intersection (Yarralumla and Deakin sides) will be made safer. These works are funded under the ACT Government’s Pedestrian and Road Safety Program.
Works will be undertaken in two stages.
Stage one
From Friday 15 August 2025 work will begin on the Adelaide Avenue off-ramp westbound (Deakin side) of the intersection to provide improved crossings facilities. Works will deliver new and upgraded pram ramps, crossings, kerb ramps, path connections, chevrons, line markings and landscaping.
Works on the Deakin side are expected to take about 3 weeks, weather and site conditions permitting.
Stage two
Once stage one is complete, stage two will start on the Adelaide Avenue off-ramp eastbound (Yarralumla side) of the intersection. Stage two will deliver new and upgraded pram ramps, crossings, kerb ramps, path connections, chevrons, line markings and landscaping.
Stage two is expected to take 3 weeks, weather and site conditions permitting.
All works are expected to be completed by the end of September 2025.
