What is the YRA?

The YRA is an incorporated association formed in 1988 to represent the views of residents of Yarralumla. Membership is by subscription and is open to all residents of Yarralumla. The YRA membership consists of about 15% of households in Yarralumla, who are kept informed about relevant matters with regular updates via email. 

The YRA is a voluntary apolitical community group that works to promote and protect the interests of local residents and to build community engagement.

Our objectives

The YRA aims to represent everyone who lives in Yarralumla, with particular emphasis on maintaining and improving the quality of life for the residents of Yarralumla.

Its specific aims are:

  • To provide a focus and co-ordination point for representing the views of the Yarralumla community;
  • To work towards maintaining and improving the quality of life of the Yarralumla community; and
  • To keep the Yarralumla community informed about policy, environmental and social issues affecting or likely to affect Yarralumla.

What does the YRA do?

The YRA:

  • Organises social events such as the annual Yarralumla Does Christmas and previously the Party at the Shops
  • Contributes to improving the infrastructure available to residents such as the drinking fountain at the shops and a number of park benches throughout the suburb
  • Keeps Yarralumla beautiful with a volunteer tree maintenance group, decorates Yarralumla street trees with big red bows at Christmas and participates in the annual Clean Up Lake Burley Griffin event
  • Represents Yarralumla residents on a number of community panels and is a member of the Inner South Canberra Community Council
  • Negotiates with Government on matters affecting planning, traffic and parking or other issues that impact on the amenity of the suburb
  • Keeps members informed through regular eNewsletters and a periodic hard copy newsletter to all residents
